site.btaMagnitude 4.9 Earthquake Registered in Southwestern Romania


An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 points on the Richter Scale was registered Monday at 16:02 local (and Bulgarian) time in southwestern Romania, Romania's National Institute of Geophysics said.
The quake was at a depth of 16.1 km and was located in Gorj county in the Oltenia region.
On February 14, an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was registered in the same area. This was the strongest earthquake recorded in the Oltenia region in the last 200 years. It was followed by more than 1,000 aftershocks, some of which were with a magnitude of more than 4 points.
The quake was 11.5 kilometres west of the town of Targu Jiu in Romania and 256 km from Sofia.
