At least three people died and 213 were injured in Turkiye late Monday after two consecutive earthquakes hit Hatay Province in southeastern Turkiye, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu quoted by Deutsche Presse-Agentur said later that day. The new earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 5.8 were registered within three minutes of each other, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

Soylu warned people not to enter buildings and added that 26 aftershocks had been recorded.

According to AFAD, the tremors were felt in many neighbouring provinces, as well as in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt.

Hatay Province Mayor Lutfu Savas said that the earthquakes caused more buildings to collapse, and there are people stranded under the rubble.

Rescuers in the city of Antakya are working to pull trapped people, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Forty-two people were also reported injured in Syria.
