site.btaBulgaria and Azerbaijan Agree on Accelerating Green Energy Corridor Project
At the end of a quadrilateral meeting between Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Georgia, Bulgaria's Deputy Energy Minister Kiril Temelkov said that plans are in place to develop a roadmap to identify and accelerate activities related to the implementation of the Green Energy Corridor project between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, the Energy Ministry reported on Saturday. The meeting took place as part of the INRES 2026 forum.
Temelkov said: "A roadmap will be drawn up to identify and accelerate activities for the implementation of the Green Energy Corridor between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. The energy ministries of Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Georgia reaffirmed their commitment to the project and its key importance for the development of energy connectivity between Southeast Europe and the Caspian region."
This year, the Second Natural Resources Summit was held under the motto "Energy and Natural Resources at the Core of a Changing World" under the auspices of Turkiye's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In Istanbul, Temelkov also participated in a panel discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. "Speaking of security of supply, connectivity and diversification are key factors in achieving it. Equally important are energy affordability and the decarbonization of the sector," Temelkov said. He added that a balanced approach requires the use of solutions that are both reliable and environmentally friendly.
The Minister stated: "Different energy sources – nuclear energy, gas, hydropower, wind, and solar energy – must be combined in a precise and well-reasoned manner. In formulating our common goals – security, reliable supplies, and affordable prices – we must make it very clear that grid connectivity is a key factor in achieving them. [Grid connectivity] must be designed in such a way as to allow each country to utilize its available energy resources in the most pragmatic and efficient manner for itself, as connectivity between countries will help us share it effectively and achieve socio-economic benefits for our societies."
On May 17, Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova and her Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, discussed expanding the energy cooperation between the two countries.
