On this date in Bulgarian history:

1851: First celebration of the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slav Letters, commemorating the brothers Cyril and Methodius who invented the Slav alphabet. Currently Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature.

1914: PFC Levski is established in Sofia.

1975: A monument to Sts Cyril and Methodius is unveiled in front of Sofia's National Library.

- National Day of Argentina: May Revolution Day (1810);

- National Day of Jordan: Independence Day (1946).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1880: First law on court organization adopted; cassation procedure introduced.

1908: Elections held for 14th Ordinary National Assembly; won by Democratic Party.

1956: National Commission for UNESCO set up.

1978: National Palace of Culture (NDK convention centre) in Sofia goes under construction.

1879: Supreme Court of Principality of Bulgaria is established.

1948: Union of Bulgarian Journalists is established.  

2002:  In Plovdiv, Pope John Paul II beatifies three Catholic priests executed by communist regime in 1952. 

2005: Francophone Regional Centre for Central and Eastern Europe (CREFECO) opens in Sofia.

2006: National Assembly ratifies Bulgarian-US intergovernmental Agreement on Defence Cooperation, signed in Sofia on April 28, 2006.
