1954: Torrential rain causes extensive flooding in Blagoevgrad (Southwestern Bulgaria) and claims 13 lives.

1990: Bulgaria receives "specially invited" status from Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe.

2008: A payment of USD 360 million of Iraq's debt to the Bulgarian State is finalized.
Bulgaria becomes the first country to reach an agreement on a lump-sum cash settlement of its receivables from Iraq.
