The Sofia Emergency Medical Care Centre marks its 90th anniversary on December 10, 2025, its press office said on Wednesday.

The institution was founded in 1935, when King Boris III signed and promulgated a decree establishing one of the first emergency medical services in Europe. Over the decades, the Centre’s history has included notable milestones, including the evolution of ambulance vehicles and emergency response practices.

According to information published on the centre’s website, its core activities include providing emergency medical care to the ill and injured, offering specialized emergency transport for patients, organ donors, blood, blood products and medical equipment, delivering expert consultations in emergency care, and training medical residents in emergency medicine.
