site.btaSofia Zoo to Celebrate World Rhino Day

For the eighth consecutive year, the Sofia Zoo will celebrate World Rhino Day on Monday, the zoo announced on its Facebook page. Visitors are invited between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the enclosure of the white rhino Chico, near the “Giants” hall, to learn fascinating facts about the five rhino species worldwide: the white and black rhinos from Africa, and the Sumatran, Indian, and Javan rhinos from Asia.
Keepers will demonstrate how they bathe and feed Chico, accompanied by a thematic lecture on white rhinos. Children can also take part in art workshops to create clay rhino figurines, themed cards, and drawings. A quiz titled “What Do We Know About Rhinos?” will be held with prizes for the participants.
All activities are free for zoo visitors. The event is organized by the Environmental Science and Education Center at Sofia Zoo.
World Rhino Day has been observed internationally since 2010 to raise awareness of the threats facing these remarkable and ancient animals.
