Meeting on Thursday, Bulgaria's Council for Electronic Media (CEM) voted, 3-1, to decide on setting up a technical committee to check the availability and validity of the documents submitted by candidates for director general of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

The new head of the public broadcaster is expected to be elected on October 16. Five candidates have submitted applications for the post of BNT Director General: the current acting BNT Director General Emil Koshlukov, Svilena Dimitrova, Sasho Yovkov, Nevena Andonova, and Milena Milotinova. The names of those admitted to the procedure will be announced by October 2, and those who will be interviewed by October 9.

The technical committee will report any deficiencies or non-conformities in the candidates' documents by September 23 at the latest. If no issues are found, its work will be covered in a memorandum to be presented to CEM for approval by October 2.

CEM member Kadrinka Kadrinova was elected chair of the committee. Other members are CEM member Prolet Velkova, the acting Director of the CEM Licensing, Registration, Legal Regimes and International Affairs Directorate Doroteya Petrova, CEM General Administration Director Rayna Radoeva, and the senior legal adviser at the CEM Specialized Administration Vladimir Pavlov.
