site.btaMPs Take Part in Blood Donation Drive in Parliament
Members of Parliament donated blood here on Wednesday as part of a campaign in the National Assembly, initiated by the Health Committee and held under the auspices of Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova.
This is the third consecutive blood donation campaign in Parliament, said Parliamentary Health Committee Chair Kostadin Angelov (GERB–UDF). The Committee chose 17 September, the Day of Sofia, to highlight the serious shortage of blood and blood products in Bulgaria and to raise public awareness that blood donation saves lives, Angelov explained.
Nataliya Kiselova remarked that only those who have experienced the need for blood truly understand the importance of such an act.
Bulgarian Red Cross President Acad. Hristo Grigorov stressed that donating blood means saving lives and showing generosity of spirit. “We are here to demonstrate to the Bulgarian people that when we are united, the results are positive,” he said.
Krasimira Terzieva, Director of the National Centre for Transfusion Haematology, added that blood donation is the quietest yet strongest act of human solidarity: “It is one of the few things a person can do for others – to give a part of themselves so that another may live, quietly, selflessly, without ever knowing whose life has been saved.”
