site.btaMRF - New Beginning Deputy Floor Leader Slams No-Confidence Vote as Hypocritical
During the parliamentary debate on the no-confidence vote against the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov here on Wednesday, Deputy Floor Leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning Jordan Tzonev said that the motion and its motives can best be described as a "parade of hypocrisy", particularly on the part of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB)."
Tzonev, speaking from the parliamentary rostrum after the motion was formally introduced, said that hypocrisy is an inherent trait of the political community, which began forming in the early 1990s. He described that community as a group comprised of "sons of former communist elites and later embraced by [George] Soros". The MP stated that those speaking about the rule of law today are the same people who would trample the Constitution and violate the law," Tzonev, seemingly referring to the arrest of GERB leader Boyko Borissov that took place in March 2022, questioned whether the arrest of an opposition leader is an example of upholding the rule of law.
Regarding the justice system and the emphasis placed by the motion on the US Magnitsky Act, Tzonev said that the sanctions against MRF – New Beginning Leader Delyan Peevski were fabricated. Tzonev alleged that Peevski's sanction under the Magnitsky Act is a lie invented and manipulated by the Prokopiev family, thanks to their personal connections with "certain circles in the US administration".
Addressing the sponsors of the vote, Tzonev said: "The loudest corruption alert in Bulgaria’s history involves your contraband. Under your governance, the Interior Ministry became a den of smugglers who entered and exited through the ministry’s back door, with one small detail: they came in with sports bags and left without them."
Tzonev praised Peevski for not allowing CC-DB to capture the state. He stated: "He is the one who began tearing off your hypocritical masks, revealing the true faces of those seeking to seize control of the judiciary, those who hope to win elections with 8 to 10% support, and then go on to govern, appointing your own prosecutor, your own people in the services, to serve your private interests and those of the oligarchs who back you."
The MRF - New Beginning Deputy Floor Leader told CC-DB that the era of protest politics as a tool to bring down governments belongs to the past.
