Support for Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone has stabilized, according to data from the third national representative survey tracking trends through July 2025 in the attitudes of citizens and businesses in Bulgaria regarding Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone. Data from the survey, conducted between July 8 and 22, was presented by Deputy Minister of Finance Metodi Metodiev and Alpha Research head Boryana Dimitrova at an event at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

Among citizens, the ratio of positive to negative attitudes is 49.2 to 45.8%. The share of those supporting membership is 3 percentage points higher than in May.

Businesses maintain consistently high positive attitudes of 69% compared to 30% in the opposite camp, according to the survey.

The most concerning trend revealed by the survey is the sharp rise in the number of people—71%—who fear speculation and artificial price hikes, a figure notably higher than the proportion of those with a negative view of the euro.

Dimitrova said that the previous nationally representative survey conducted in April and May suggested that 56.3% of Bulgarians believed that Bulgaria should continue its integration into the EU, while 29.6% disagreed.

In the survey conducted in May, 46.5% of citizens said they approved of adopting the euro, and 46.8% said they disapproved. The results for April were 45.2% in favour and 49% against.

When asked the same question in May, 66.3% of business representatives said they approved of adopting the single currency, while 33.6% said they did not approve. The ratio in April was 65.4% to 34.6%, respectively.

Metodiev highlighted three aspects of the July survey that he considered important.

- First, he pointed out the reported increase in awareness among citizens and businesses. He linked this to the gradual rollout of the information campaign. A massive field campaign is expected to start in September in all major cities and regional centres. The Commission for Consumer Protection will be involved in providing explanations in smaller towns.

- The second positive conclusion for Metodiev is the growing rationalism among the Bulgarian public regarding the advantages of introducing the euro in the country.

- Finally, he highlighted the respondents' trust in state institutions.

According to the survey, confidence in the ability of institutions to prepare for the adoption of the euro is highest for the Bulgarian National Bank at 90.8%, which is followed by commercial banks at 88.2%, the Ministry of Finance at 70.4%, and the National Revenue Agency at 66.2%. Attitudes change when it comes to municipalities, where only 43% of respondents believe that local authorities are capable of coping with the preparations. Trust is also low in the Commission for Consumer Protection at 34% and in the Commission for Protection of Competition at 29.8%.
