Staple foods, most fruits, and some vegetables appreciated in the past week, according to data by the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The market index for wholesale food prices increased by 0.37 percentage points to 2.185 points. Last week, the index stood at 2.177 points. The base value of 1.000 points was set in 2005.
Cow’s cheese rose in price by 2.11% to BGN 11.50/kg. The price of Vitosha type yellow cheese increased by 0.16% to BGN 17.98/kg. Yogurt (with 3% or more fat content) became 2.66% more expensive, selling at BGN 1.39 (400g container), while fresh milk rose by 1.57% to BGN 2.33 per liter.
Poultry meat was up by 3.67%, at BGN 6.95/kg. The price of eggs (size M) remained unchanged, at BGN 0.34 BGN a piece. Cow’s butter (125g pack) was slightly cheaper, down by 0.06%, at BGN 3.09.
The price of rice increased by 0.60% to BGN 3.38/kg. Type 500 flour rose by 1.32% to BGN 1.54/kg. Sunflower oil also increased, by 0.38% to 3.18 BGN per liter. The price of sugar rose by 1.78% to BGN 1.94/kg. Some legumes became cheaper: beans fell by 3.41% to BGN 4.25/kg, and lentils dropped by 1.83% to BGN 4.30/kg.
Among fruits, watermelon continued to decrease in price, down by 21.74% to BGN 0.72/kg wholesale. Peaches also fell, by 2.98% to BGN 3.58/kg. Other fruits appreciated. Strawberries rose by 6.90% to BGN 4.80/kg, apricots by 2.70% to BGN 3.80/kg. Apples went up by 4.85% to BGN 2.68/kg, and lemons rose by 6.78% to BGN 3.75/kg.
Among vegetables, cucumbers saw the highest price increase, up by 17.98% to BGN 1.68/kg. Cabbage dropped by 2.34% to BGN 1.00/kg. Carrots became 1.12% more expensive, selling at BGN 1.26/kg. Potatoes decreased in price by 4.17% to BGN 1.15/kg.
Green peppers also became cheaper, down by 1.74% to BGN 2.60/kg, as did red peppers, down by 2.96% to BGN 2.95/kg. Tomatoes were slightly cheaper, down by 0.08%, to BGN 2.40/kg. The price of onions rose by 4.90% to BGN 1.20/kg.
