An aerobatics shows with aircraft from Romania and parachute jumps will mark the opening of the National Gliding Championship near Ruse on July 27, BTA learned from Tatiana Obretenova, Chairman of the Gliding Commission of the Bulgarian National Aero Club. The event at the airfield in the village of Straklevo will start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The Championship will be on until August 2. To participate are ultralight and light aircraft as well as autogyros - aircraft that are a combination between an airplane and a helicopter.

The aerobatics show is scheduled to feature more than 40 aircraft. Among the participants are Hawks of Romania with their five aerobatic aircraft, as well as The Pelicans with two Savannah ultralight aircraft. The programme also includes demonstration aerobatics with a glider, tow plane and more. 

The demonstration parachute formation Blue Wings Romania will make attractive jumps from a Cessna Caravan aircraft. The first of the parachutists will descend with the Bulgarian flag, followed by nine Romanians who will leave traces in the sky with coloured smoke, Obretenova further said.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to view around 20 powered and unpowered aircraft on static display, including hang gliders and various types of aircraft. Those interested will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the aviation equipment, take photos with the planes and see some of the best Bulgarian and Romanian pilots, the organizers said.

The daily competitions, which can be watched by the public, start on July 28 and continue until August 2. Admission is free of charge.

The National Gliding Championship and the airshow are organised by the Bulgarian National Aero Club in Ruse with the assistance of Ruse Municipality and Airport Ruse, the local administration in the Danube city said.
