site.btaEurostat: Bulgaria's Construction Output Down for Second Consecutive Month


Construction output in Bulgaria declined for a second consecutive month in May on a monthly basis, according to the latest data released by Eurostat on Friday. Following a 0.7% drop in April, the sector recorded a further 0.5% decrease in May.
Despite the short-term decline, Bulgaria continues to show annual growth in the construction sector. In May, output was 5.1% higher compared to the same month in 2024.
Similar trends were observed across the EU and the euro area, with monthly decreases but year-on-year increases. Construction production fell by 1.7% in the eurozone and by 1.3% in the EU on a monthly basis. However, compared to May 2024, the eurozone recorded a 2.9% annual increase, while the EU as a whole saw a 2.7% rise.
Among EU member states with available data, Germany (-3.9%), Belgium (-2.2%), and the Netherlands (-1.8%) registered the largest monthly declines. On the other hand, Slovenia (+5.4%), Hungary (+2.5%), and the Czech Republic (+2.3%) saw the highest monthly gains.
In annual terms, Spain led with a 44.6% increase in construction output, followed by the Czech Republic (+11.6%), Hungary, and Portugal (both +5.4%). The steepest annual declines were recorded in Poland (-4.8%), Germany (-3.4%), and France (-3.3%).
