Wholesale Food Prices Remain almost Unchanged from Previous Week

Prices of staple foods remained stable on Bulgaria’s wholesale markets, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went down by 0.05% to 2.177 points over the past week. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of watermelons depreciated by 19.23% to BGN 0.84 per kg wholesale. Strawberries went up in price the most by 10.56% to BGN 4.65 per kg wholesale, followed by  apricots by 10.08% to BGN 3.80 per kg. The price of cherries ws up by 1% to BGN 9.52 per kg, apples went up by 5.97% to BGN 2.59 per kilo. Lemons rose in price by 8.63% to BGN 3.60 per kilo.

Vegetable prices are moved in different directions, with cabbage rising the most in price, by 8.08% to BGN 1.07 per kg, while carrots remained the cheapest, by 5.43% less to BGN 1.22 per kg. Potatoes depreciated by 2.59% to BGN 1.13 per kilo. Green peppers also went down in price by 3.44% to BGN 2.58 per kilo, as did red peppers, by 3.27% to BGN 2.90 per kg. The price of cucumbers increased by 4.37% per cent to BGN 1.53 per kg. Tomatoes were 5.26% more expensive at BGN 2.36 per kilo. The price of ripe onions went up by 7.81% to BGN 1.16 per kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 0.55% to BGN 11.30/kg. The yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type saw a drop of 0.22% to BGN 17.92/kg.

The price of yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) increased by 0.89% to BGN 1.36 for 400 grammes. Milk was priced at BGN 2.28 per litre, a decrease of 0.78%. Butter from cow's milk decreased by 0.52% to BGN 3.08 per 125 grammes.

The price of poultry increased by 0.97% to BGN 6.73/kg, while eggs (size M) depreciated by 3.51% to BGN 0.33 per unit. 

The price of rice went down by 0.3% to BGN 3.35/kg, while flour (type 500) increased by 0.92% to BGN 1.54/kg. The price of sugar increased by 3.3% to BGN 1.87/kg, beans depreciated by 0.9% to BGN 4.40/kg, and lentils appreciated by 0.87% to BGN 4.39/kg.
