A protest by employees of forestry and game farms attempted to stop traffic on the main road E-79 through Kresna on Thursday. There is strong police presence on site, which prevented the road blockage.

The protesters told BTA that they demand higher salaries and additional funding for forest protection activities.

The Kresna Town Hall told BTA that an application for a protest clearance had been received and the authorities suggested a difference location, in the town square, to make sure the rights and freedoms of other citizens are not violated.

The protest is organized by the National Federation of Agriculture and Forestry with the Podkrepa Confederation of Labor, supported by the Federation of Trade Union Organizations of the Forestry and Wood Processing Industry with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria.

After two hours of attempts to block traffic, the protesters withdrew, stating in the process that they will continue their protest actions on another day. The press centre of the Interior Ministry told BTA that two protesters were detained for disturbing public order.

Tensions had broken out earlier when some of the protesters decided to visit the municipal administration building, where they asked to talk to the mayor. Kresna Deputy Mayor Petar Petrov met with them in the lobby, telling them that the protest was permitted to take place at Kantarzhiev Square, not on the E-79 main road.
