Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov said Friday in a television appearance that votes of no confidence waste time and hinder the government from carrying out its programme.

Genov’s comments followed an announcement earlier in the day by Velichie that it has prepared a fourth motion of no confidence on the topic of environmental policy.

Genov said the opposition’s impatience was evident, as they tabled a new no-confidence motion after the previous one had not yet been debated. “I suggest they also submit no-confidence motions against the remaining 15 ministries, none of which have faced such a vote yet. This way, by the end of July, we will have addressed all of them and Parliament can proceed with its important legislative agenda,” Genov said.

He noted that the latest motion is linked to illegal landfills, but such issues have existed for 20 years. He added that, from his very first day as minister, he has fought against them.

According to Genov, the no-confidence motions waste valuable time on procedure, rather than allowing Parliament to pass laws related to the national recovery and resilience plan. He also said that Parliament has already received legislation addressing climate, water, and waste management.

Genov stressed that he has been confident in the Zhelyazkov cabinet from the very beginning, and that all declared intentions have been implemented consistently so far.

Earlier on Friday, the Zhelyazkov cabinet survived its third no-confidence vote over fiscal policy.
