site.btaCulture Ministry's New Website to Use BTA's LIK Font
The Ministry of Culture is the first Bulgarian ministry interested in introducing the new LIK font, designed by the National Academy of Art for the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), BTA Director General Kiril Valchev said Thursday as he handed over the font to Culture Minister Marian Bachev. The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Culture.
"This is an entirely Bulgarian font, created in the year we celebrate the 1170th anniversary of the first Bulgarian script, the Glagolitic alphabet. At BTA we have already introduced a unified look for our website, for LIK magazine. Several institutions have also started to introduce the font, the National Institute of Justice, the State Institute for Culture and the Diplomatic Institute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Saints Cyril and Methodius National Library, the University of National and World Economy, but undoubtedly the most important and the most significant of all the institutions that will introduce the font is the Ministry of Culture,” Valchev said.
“It is no coincidence that we, the Ministry of Culture, are first because when you presented the font a few months ago, I was very impressed by your initiative, after all if we do not support each other institutionally, I do not see who would support us more,” Culture Minister Bachev said.
“Apart from the fact that this font is beautiful, we are pursuing a line of support for this type of written communication, we want to set a style, and we can try to lead the way for others to adopt this initiative,” he added. The Ministry of Culture's new website, which has not been updated in 20 years, will also use the LIK font, Bachev announced. “I hope, this way, to provoke interest in it,” he added.
Kiril Valchev repeated that BTA provides the font free of charge to all public institutions interested in it. He also said that the font is registered with the Patent Office.
The Minister of Culture received the July issues of LIK magazine in Bulgarian, French and English, dedicated to Bulgaria and UNESCO. On July 7, at 19:00 EEST, the issue will be presented at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, in the presence of Minister Bachev. BTA’s press clubs around the country and abroad will take part in the presentation, Valchev added.
