site.btaMedical Professionals Demand that Their Starting Wage Should Be Three Times the Minimum Wage in Bulgaria
Present and future doctors and other medical professionals protested on Friday for better working conditions and a starting wage which they say should be three times the minimum wage in Bulgaria. Mottoed “A Future in Bulgaria,” the protest started in front of the Ministry of Health.
Young doctors call for a uniform starting wage for medical school graduates to be applicable in all medical treatment establishments, regardless of their funding sources. Non-compliant hospitals should be penalized, they say. Other demands of the protesters are that work-and-rest requirements should be observed, and the assignment of overtime work should be monitored and controlled for conformity to the Labour Code.
The National Assembly Health Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting on July 1 to consider legislative changes to establish minimum wage levels in hospitals.
