On this date in Bulgarian history:

1990: Working People's Party, established April 25, 1990, is renamed Bulgarian Communist Party.

1999: Bulgaria accepts NATO's proposal to sign agreement allowing transit to Allied forces and equipment for Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo.

2000: Bulgaria's Parliament ratifies ILO Convention C182 concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour.

Day of Remembrance and Mourning in Russia (marks day in 1941 when Hitler invaded Soviet Union during World War II).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

813: In Battle of Versinikia (near present-day Malamirovo Village, Yambol Region, Southeastern Bulgaria), Bulgarian army led by Khan Kroum defeats Byzantine forces of Emperor Michael I Rangabe.

1906: Bulgaria's first mineworkers trade union founded in Pernik.

1999: US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright pays working visit to Bulgaria.

2000: Access to Public Information Act passed.

2005: First deceased-donor liver transplantation carried out at Alexandrovska Hospital in Sofia.

2007: First Bulgarian contingent leaves for Afghanistan to guard inner perimeter of Kandahar Airport as part of International Security Assistance Force.
