A specialized police operation was carried out under the leadership of the District Prosecutor's Office - Burgas, during which a drug greenhouse for the production of marijuana worth over BGN 1 million was busted, reported the Burgas Appellate Prosecution Office here on Tuesday.
Three males have been detained in the course of the operation, carried out in the southeastern village of Suhodol. Details of the investigation were provided to the media today by the District Prosecutor of Burgas Georgi Chinev and Burgas chief of police Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov.
Chinev and Marinov said that the operation was carried out by officers of the Burgas Police Department. The plants, which are about 150 centimetres tall, were grown in a special room with a total area of about 80 square metres, located in the yard of a private property in the village of Suhodol. There were over 240 plants.
The premises were well concealed, and the entrance camouflaged with hay bales. High-tech equipment was placed inside, including numerous quartz lamps, filters, fans, humidity meters, thermometers, drip irrigation and a duct system. The entire system is controlled by a computer installed at the very entrance of the room. Electricity generated by photovoltaic panels placed in another part of the property's yard was used to power the drug greenhouse.
The three men arrested, two from Burgas and one from Varna, were caught while tending to the cannabis plants. According to initial reports, the processed produce was to be disposed of during the summer season in major Bulgarian resorts along the Black Sea coast.
