The work of Bulgarian media around the world preserves the language and culture outside the borders of Bulgaria, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said during the 20th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Sofia on Saturday.
"Bulgarian journalists around the world are the bearers of Bulgarian traditions there," he noted, adding that they also serve as a bridge between truth and knowledge and between memory and future.
Terziev emphasized that events like this are significant because they bring people together in a common conversation about the media, not just as a source of information, but as a path to knowledge. "In a time when access to information is quick, but often superficial, responsible journalism has a more important role, namely to verify, to sift through and to explain. To build an informed society, capable of distinguishing truth from disinformation," he stressed.
He added that speech is not just a form of expression, but the foundation of a thinking society, and that its true power lies in the ability to provide direction and understanding, a mission that today also finds expression in free journalism.
This year’s forum is held with the support of A1, Aurubis Bulgaria, BGR Group Ltd., Geotechmin, Glavbolgarstroy Holding, Logistic Systems Ltd., the 13 centuries Bulgaria National Endowment Fund, SFA Automotive Ltd. (the official importer of Opel in Bulgaria), Postbank, Pachkov Ltd., and SOF Connect (the operator of Vasil Levski Sofia Airport).
