For the first time, kindergartens will not close during the summer break in Sofia this year, Mayor Vassil Terziev said on his Facebook page on Thursday.
He pointed out that Sofia Municipality is launching several new programmes that will help families, support young people who want to become teachers, and provide children with care, attention, and a more meaningful summer. "Learning Together is a programme for kindergartens, in which students of pedagogy, psychology, speech therapy, and medical specialties will work with children, receive support from mentors, and gain real experience", Terziev explained, adding that more than 190 young people have applied for the programme, including from other cities in Bulgaria.
He noted that the Summer Care programme will give children from first to fourth grade the opportunity to participate in classes at school between June 2 and July 11, stating that teachers, students, sports coaches, children's writers, and actors will participate in the programme.
Sofia Municipality has also created a summer programme called Vitosha for Children, which will include camps and hikes in the mountains, as well as lessons on nature conservation. Terziev stressed that Vitosha is not just a backdrop for photos, but a place that children should know, love and protect.
