An exhibition to mark the 15th anniversary of the National Programme For Women in Science was opened on the Lovers Bridge at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia Thursday. The exhibition honours Bulgarian female researchers whose achievements are changing the world - from genetics and oncology to sustainable energy, biophotonics, artificial intelligence, and environmental protection. It presents 39 women who have been awarded under the program over the years, whose work makes a real contribution to science, health, society, and the future.
Vice President Iliana Iotova was at the opening ceremony. "The exhibition is a unique recognition of the Bulgarian women scientists who are an inspiration for others with their talent and scientific achievements," she said.
Ass. Prof. Dr. Radoslava Bekova was awarded for her project on researching marine litter pollution along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. She told journalists that this is one of the most important and prestigious awards she has received to date. Dr. Bekova pointed out that marine litter pollution is one of the biggest problems in the Black Sea.
