Seventeen boutique wineries from Northeastern Bulgaria will open their doors to visitors on May 17–18 during the "Wine Open Days," now in its fifth year, certified wine expert and guide Anelia Hristova told BTA. The event will feature the latest vintages—mostly white and rosé wines—alongside the stories behind their creation.

Hristova, who is organizing the event through Wine Adventures, has also developed a regional wine tourism map that is updated annually.

Each participating winery will offer tastings, tours, and opportunities to meet both seasoned winemakers and passionate young enologists who continue family traditions while bringing fresh, modern ideas. Culinary experiences will also accompany the tastings, ranging from homemade local dishes to gourmet offerings and live cooking shows.

Four distinct wine routes will highlight the diversity of terroirs and grape varieties in the region:

  • Character and Authenticity of the Northern Black Sea Coast – Includes wineries near Varna such as DeVina, Chateau Boshnakov, and Wineground Bottles & Beans;
  • Wines from the Lands of the Great Bulgarian Tsars – Features producers near Bulgaria's historical capitals, including Tsarev Brod and Villa Ovcharovo;
  • Culture, Spirituality, and Winemaking Traditions – Veliko Tarnovo – Covers six wineries, including Dragoshinov and Marjan, with a focus on rare varieties and historic practices;
  • Danube Wines and the Hidden Treasures of Dobrudzha – Showcases wineries like Mladenovi and Pink Pelican, the latter hosting a three-course show-cooking dinner with chef Nikol Rosenova.

The event aims to promote local wine culture while integrating it with regional gastronomy, history, and natural attractions, according to Hristova.
