Fearing the voice of the Bulgarian citizens in holding a referendum on Bulgaria's readiness to introduce the euro in 2026, the new majority in Parliament trampled over the Constitution and the laws by using the Chair of the National Assembly, stated President Rumen Radev in a position following Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova’s refusal to submit to the National Assembly for consideration the proposal of the head of State to hold a national referendum asking whether Bulgaria should adopt the single European currency in 2026, Radev's press secretariat said.

According to the president, Kiselova's injunction "collapses what little trust remains in the institutions and exposes their claims to be working in the interests of the people and taking their will into account."

The parliamentary majority is marching towards the eurozone but is moving Bulgaria away from the Europe of democracy and law, the President added.
