site.btaEU Commissioner Varhelyi Addresses Conference on Animal Cruelty

European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare Oliver Varhelyi said that animal cruelty has no place anywhere in the world, and it should not be tolerated by anyone. He gave a video address at a conference against animal cruelty in Sofia organized by Emil Radev, MEP from GERB/EPP and vice-chair of the Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals.

Varhelyi pointed out that the first EU rules on this topic were adopted 50 years ago and noted the importance of improving the enforcement of the rules that are now in place.

According to him, animal welfare can be improved significantly by applying current standards correctly.
