Vazrazhdane on Friday met with representatives of the Velichie parliamentary group to discuss a new motion of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Tsoncho Ganev MP of Vazrazhdane told journalists. Vazrazhdane had also invited MECh, but its representatives did not come.
On Wednesday, Ganev said that Vazrazhdane would propose a no-confidence motion over the Government's financial policy.
In Ganev's words, Velichie said they wanted a vote over waste management, but according to Vazrazhdane, waste and illegal landfills are not a defining issue for every citizen of Bulgaria. However, Vazrazhdane would support Velichie’s no-confidence motion if the other opposition parties unite around the issue of waste.
MECh leader Radostin Vasilev said that his party has decided to support a no-confidence vote submitted by Velichie, as there had been a gentleman’s agreement between Vazrazhdane and Velichie: first, a no-confidence vote would be submitted by Vazrazhdane, then by MECh, and the third by Velichie.
According to MECh’s parliamentary group, Vazrazhdane’s chosen topic was not appropriate, which is why they declined to attend talks.
Vasilev added that MECh has initiated talks with Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), and will soon speak with Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, about submitting a future no-confidence motion against the government over “domestic policy failures”, specifically the performance of Interior Minister Daniel Mitov.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Friday, Ivelin Mihaylov, leader of Velichie, commented on the cooperation between opposition parties on the newly proposed motions of no confidence against the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. “Support for Vazrazhdane’s future initiatives depends on the support they provide for our motion of no confidence. If they do not support us now, this will mean that they are sabotaging the opposition in the process of removing the government and are somehow playing with it,” Mihaylov said.
"I cannot say that there is disagreement between opposition forces, it is more that they have clear positions," Mihaylov said.
