The BILLA supermarket chain will open its third logistics centre in Bulgaria on May 21. It will be built near the village of Zagore in Stara Zagora, with an investment of over BGN 60 million, the company said Friday. The opening ceremony will be attended by BILLA manager of Dimitar Peshev and other officials.
BILLA is part of one of the largest economic groups in Europe - the German REWE Group. In Bulgaria, the company is the retail chain with the largest number of supermarkets - nearly 170 in more than 50 cities. In addition, it is the fifth largest employer in the country with over 5,700 employees. About 250 new jobs have been created in the new logistics base, which is a significant contribution to the economic and social development of the region, the retail chain said.
The logistics centre has also been built with a focus on sustainability and environmental protection. "BILLA Bulgaria stresses that it is making systematic efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, and the base in the village of Zagore is another example of this commitment. Thanks to the technological innovations implemented, the site will be certified under the international BREEAM sustainability standard for green building.
