The Bulgarian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture will open on Friday in the Titian Hall. This year, this country will present the project Pseudonature by architect Iassen Markov.
Pseudonature explores an absurd hypothesis where it snows in Venice during the summer. The project addresses serious issues such as climate change and human interference in complex natural processes, using strong imagery. A snow machine that covers solar panels, making them stop working, serves as a metaphor for humanity's inability to handle climate crises. The installation will also recreate a large winter cabin with an artificial fireplace and a carpet featuring elements of national culture. Visitors can sit on this carpet and read the pavilion’s catalog and will have the opportunity to provide a solution to the problem presented in the installation. There will be a form and a survey, which will also be published on the project’s website.
The project will consist of two parts - an exterior and an interior, said Markov. He explained that architects look for problems and solutions, and this installation offers various messages that can be interpreted differently by each viewer.
This year will mark the 19th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale, which will run from May 10 to November 23, 2025, under the theme “Intelligence: Natural, Artificial, Collective.” The curator of the international exhibition is Carlo Ratti, an Italian architect and engineer. A total of 66 countries will participate in the forum this year.
