The excellent bilateral dialogue and constructive cooperation between Bulgaria and Poland were the focus of the talks between Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Polish President Andrzej Duda, the press service of the Council of Ministers said Wednesday.

Zhelyazkov noted that Bulgaria is among the EU countries spending more than 2% of its GDP on defence. He also highlighted the government's efforts to develop Bulgaria's defence industry in the context of EU-wide security.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov hailed the achievements of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU with a focus on European security. “Your Presidency reflects our shared commitment to a strong European Union and we remain a constructive partner in achieving this goal,” he said.

Zhelyazkov praised the active dialogue between Bulgaria and Poland in various areas of mutual interest - both at bilateral level and within the EU, NATO and international organizations and initiatives. The Prime Minister also stressed the potential for the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries. Zhelyazkov paid special attention to Bulgaria's consistent efforts to join the euro area, a priority on which the institutions continue to work intensively.
