On this date in Bulgarian history:

1945 - The communist government decrees the establishment of 
farmer cooperatives, the TKZSs.

1993 - A Thracian tomb, known as the Ostrousha Tomb, is 
discovered near Kazanluk, Central Bulgaria. It is dated to the 
4th-3rd century BC.

2005 - The European Parliament approves the EU Accession Treaty 
with Bulgaria.

2005 - The 39th National Assembly elects Ginyo Ganev MP to the 
post of national ombudsman. This is Bulgaria's first supreme 
public defender.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1205: A Bulgarian army led by Tsar Kaloyan (1197-1207) defeats the Crusaders at Adrianople and captures Latin Emperor Baldwin of Flanders.

1876: Representatives of revolutionary committees from 58 settlements gather at Oborishte and decide to declare an uprising for the achievement of national and political independence from Turkish yoke (April 1876 Uprising). 

1928: Earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale hits some 300 settlements in the area of Purvomay and Chirpan (South Central Bulgaria), killing 128, wounding thousands, and leaving 7,000 families homeless. 

1994: Bulgaria establishes diplomatic relations with Brunei at the ambassador level.

2009: The Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned pay a two-day official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of President Georgi Purvanov.
