The first Bulgarian monument to St Cyril and St Methodius in Spain was unveiled in Malaga on April 5, the Bulgarian school Rodina in Malaga told BTA on Monday. "In less than 10 months, our compatriots from Spain and Bulgaria joined efforts to implement the idea for a common point that would have an effect for the realization of the Bulgarian identity, history, and culture," the school said.

The monument - a bronze bas-relief on a stone foundation - is located in the park zone of Herrera Oria Boulevard and Virhen de la Paloma Street.

The first to lay flowers at the monument was its author, artist Yulian Ivanov of Benalmadena.

The unveiling of the monument marked the start of Bulgarian Days in Malaga, an initiative of Rodina and the Malaga-Bulgaria 2010 Association on April 5 and 6. Among the official guests of the cultural festival and the unveiling were Rayna Mandzhukova, head of the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, and Bulgarian Ambassador to Spain Aleksey Andreev, who thanked the Mayoralty of Malaga for the help in making the idea for the monument a reality.
