“Gala in Sofia” Premieres

“I'm glad that I can sing with many friends, as in this case with Sonya Yoncheva, who is an exceptional colleague. And I think our voices sound nice together,” says Placido Domingo, in the documentary “Gala in Sofia”. The premiere was at Sofia’s Cinema House on Saturday, as part of the Master of Art Festival.

In 2021 Yoncheva and Domingo gave a gala concert in St Alexander Nevsky Square in Sofia.

In the film, Domingo says of Yoncheva that she is an extremely down-to-earth person and doesn't act like a star. In 2010, in Milan, Sonia Yoncheva won the Operalia competition organized by Placido Domingo.

“Placido Domingo is symbolic in my story. A man who has supported me so much and whom I hold dearly. He is part of my family," said Yoncheva before the premiere of the film.

"I have always felt that I belong to a time more than a country with borders. I have always felt that an artist belongs to time, to timelessness, to space, to an era. The fact that I have the opportunity to live in different countries, and create in different countries, can only give me different colours," says Sonya Yoncheva in the film.
