In March 2024, the average monthly temperature will be above the norm, which is between 5C and 7C in Northern Bulgaria and high plains, between 6C and 9C in Southern Bulgaria and along the Black Sea coast, and between minus 8C and minus 2C in the mountains. The lowest temperature will be minus 5C and the highest, 25C, meteorologist Anastasia Kirilova of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology told BTA.

The monthly precipitation will be around the norm, which is between 40 and 60 l/sq m in valleys and between 50 and 90 l/sq m in the mountains. 

March will start with temperatures higher than the usual for this time of year. Cloudy weather is forecast for March 1-10, with rain in most parts of the country and snow in the mountains above 1,800-2,000 m. 

In March 10-20, the temperatures will be higher than the usual in March. The weather will be cloudy, with rain showers expected around March 15.

The March 20-31 period will begin with sunny weather and temperatures higher than the usual. March 25-31 will have cloudy and rainy weather.

March is known for its temperature anomalies and sudden changes in the weather. That month has seen winter temperatures with heavy snowfall as well as spring weather with temperatures of 30C and over.

The astronomical spring begins at 05:06 a.m. on March 20, Kirilova said.
