Delyan Peevski, who was elected on Saturday as Co-chair of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), has called for an investigation into the insulin deficit in Bulgaria. Peevski's petition is addressed to acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, Interior Ministry Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev and the Head of the State Agency for National Security Plamen Tonchev, the MRF press office reported on Monday.

The petition comes after organizations of patients alerted the media and government institutions that life-sustaining insulin products are practically impossible to find in pharmacies.

Peevski accused the ruling majority of creating a life-threatening situation for thousands of Bulgarians, including many children. "It is unacceptable for the Ministry of Health to ignore the issue while waiting for the government rotation or some other personal gain for its minister," he commented.

"As ministers, leaders and politicians are busy sharing out the political power among themselves, people are suffering from the irresponsibility of the state," Peevski said.
