Austrian document control experts will assist colleagues at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, Romania's Internal Affairs Minister Catalin Predoiu said on Monday, interviewed for DC News TV. He gave details about control procedures at Romania's busiest airport after March 31, when air and sea borders will be lifted as the country partly accedes to the Schengen area.

Predoiu explained that if an airport officer has difficulty establishing the authenticity of an ID or if a document has expired, they will be able to consult an Austrian expert standing nearby.

He said 2,000 Frontex officers will be sent to Romania and Bulgaria to help with border security.

Predoiu noted that Romania is not the only country to make a phased entry to Schengen. He gave Austria as an earlier example.
