site.btaSofia District Prosecution Office Detains Syrian Citizen Who Helped Foreigners Cross Illegally into Bulgaria

The Sofia District Prosecution Office brought to criminal responsibility a Syrian citizen who illegally helped foreigners to cross into the country, the Prosecutor's office said Thursday.

On August 8 at about 22.00 on "Todor Alexandrov" boulevard in Sofia, the accused M.A. in order to gain for himself a material benefit has assisted 7 Syrian citizens to cross into Bulgaria illegally, transporting them by car.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in this case for a criminal offence. Taking into account the danger of M.A. absconding, he is detained for a period of up to 72 hours by a decree of a supervising prosecutor. 

A request is to be submitted to the court for consideration of a case for taking a detention order against the accused.
