The National Trade Union Federation for Social Assistance and Child Protection in Romania (FNS Pro. Assist) will launch street protests from August 28 if the government does not take its demands into account, the organization said in their position sent to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

The reason for the discontent was the government's new draft budget-fiscal measures, which foresees tax increases, the abolition of tax breaks, the restriction of some allowances and vouchers, job cuts, and the merger of institutions.

Trade unionists insist that if there are job losses or job cuts in the sector, they should be up to 30% at most. "Otherwise, the measure will lead to a collapse in the provision of social services aimed at children and young people and people with disabilities," the position reads.

The disgruntled point out that the restructuring and reduction in the number of personal assistants for people with disabilities will have a direct impact on those vulnerable people who need constant care.
