Bansko is hosting the 20th International Linguistics Olympiad, to be opened officially Monday afternoon at the Nikola Vaptsarov Community Centre. The Minister of Education and Science, Galin Tsokov, will attend the ceremony, the Ministry said.

The International Linguistics Olympiad in Bansko, an annual international competition that brings together secondary school students and experts from various fields of linguistics. This year’s edition will be attended by 40 teams with over 200 youths from all over the world. 

The International Linguistics Olympiad has been held every year since 2003 - when it was first initiated by Bulgaria and the very first edition took place in Borovets. Bulgarian teams have been part of the competition every year since then. Leader of the team is Alexander Velinov, the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association said on its website.

Bulgaria also hosted of the 13th International Linguistics Olympiad that took place in Blagoevgrad, Southwestern Bulgaria, in June 2015.
