North Macedonia's European integration, the expected adoption of constitutional amendments in the country and the resolution of its dispute with Bulgaria were on the agenda of talks between the EU affairs ministers of the Weimar Triangle and North Macedonia leaders, held in Skopje on Monday and Tuesday.

The Weimar Triangle is represented by France's Secretary of State for European Affairs Laurence Boone, Germany's Minister of State for Europe and Climate Anna Luhrmann, and Poland's Minister for the EU Szymon Szynkowski vel Sek.

On Monday, the representatives of the Weimar Triangle talked with North Macedonia's Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, President Stevo Pendarovski, opposition VMRO-DPMNE party leader Hristijan Mickoski, and Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), the country's largest ethnic Albanian political party and partner to the ruling SDSM.

Meeting with the guests, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti presented his party's initiative to set up a common European front. He said the opposition VMRO-DPMNE also has European forces "which work for the country's well-being and do not want it to be isolated".

The Weimar Triangle ministers and North Macedonia President Stevo Pendarovski discussed the negotiation process for the country's accession to the EU, the fulfillment of the tasks arising from the negotiation framework, and the possibility to speed up Skopje's European integration, Pendarovski's office reported.

The President said North Macedonia remains engaged in the negotiation process and all necessary reforms. He noted that EU membership is in Skopje's strategic interest, and it takes a strong political will from all factors to fulfill the obligations which have been assumed.

The Tuesday agenda of the visit includes talks with the coordinators of the parliamentary groups and the President of the Assembly, Talat Xhaferi.
