Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met behind closed doors with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a NATO summit in Vilnius on Wednesday, A Haber reported. The agenda included bilateral relations and the resolution of differences between the neighbouring countries.

The disagreements between Greece and Turkiye are mainly related to the borders of territorial waters and airspace over the Aegean Sea.

Yasar Guler and Nikos Dendias, defence ministers of Turkiye and Greece respectively, agreed in early July to resume dialogue between their countries on confidence-building measures and to discuss the issue in Vilnius.

This was the first meeting between Erdogan and Mitsotakis in nearly a year and a half. Before the meeting, Mitsotakis expressed confidence that with the strong support of the peoples of the two countries, steps could be taken to resume relations between Turkiye and Greece.
