US actors Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman are in Romania producing The Gray House, a historical drama about three women who founded the first spy network in America, local media reported. The six episodes of the mini-series will be shot by August and will be broadcast in 2024. 

The Gray House is the untold true story of three brave women from the American Civil War period, Costner is quoted as saying. He adds that he is excited to join efforts with his friend Morgan Freeman to produce this important epic saga. The mini-series is directed by two-time Oscar nominee Roland Joffe.

In early February, another star duo of actors visited Romania to shoot a film: Mickey Rourke and Alain Delon's son Anthony spent a whole week in Oradea for 21 Rubies. 

In late June, Bucharest awaits John Malkovich, who will play Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache in The Yellow Tie.

Romania is not yet a main destination for international film producers due to the lack of fiscal incentives corresponding to those offered in other European countries, Romania Insider writes. In 2018, the authorities introduced a system for monetary discount for film-makers but did not maintain it in the following years. In May 2023, then culture minister Lucian Romascanu said that the government had undertaken a preliminary legislative step to restart the scheme for state aid for monetary discounts for the film industry.
