On this date in Bulgarian history:

1894: People's Party is founded in Sofia, headed by then-Prime Minister of Principality of Bulgaria, Konstantin Stoilov. It is made up of members of National People's Party of Eastern Rumelia, which exists until 1885, and Conservative Party of 1879.

1999: Convention for the Establishment of a European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Financial Protocol annexed thereto are ratified by Parliament. Bulgaria is admitted as CERN member on March 11, 1999.

2000: Social Democrats Political Movement is established.

2005: Shoumen archaeologists discover remains of unique wooden palace built circa 7th-8th century in Pliska, which marks beginning of construction of first Bulgarian capital.

JUNE 4

The world:

  • International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression;
  • Independence Day in Tonga (1970).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1891: Princess Clementine Hospital (today's Hospital No. 5) is unveiled in Sofia.

1957: The Committee on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (today's Nuclear Regulatory Agency) is established.

1998: The National Health Insurance Fund is established as Parliament passes the Health Insurance Act.
