International Conference on Countering Transnational Crime, Cybercrime and Money Laundering Held in Burgas

An international conference on countering transnational crime, cybercrime and money laundering opened in Burgas on Tuesday. The participants from prosecution services of countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia will exchange experience and good practices until June 1. The event is organized and hosted by the Prosecutor's Office of Bulgaria.

Desislava Pironeva, Deputy Prosecutor General at the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor's Office, opened the forum: "The idea to organize this conference was born spontaneously as a result of professional talks among the representatives of prosecution structures from Eastern Europe and Central Asia and professional units of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry. We share a desire to solve problems common to all of us." Pironeva also said that discussing the common problems related to international cyber crime, transnational crime and money laundering could help solve them through effective cooperation. Hopefully, it will develop in the future so as to deal professionally with today's challenges, she said.

Pironeva added that this type of crime is on the increase and it is cooperation at professional level that can yield the best results and solve common problems.

Addressing the participants, Burgas Deputy Regional Governor Maria Tsenova said they would visit the seaside towns of Nessebar and Sozopol.

The participants come from Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, Turkiye and Ukraine and the US Department of Energy.
