Bulgarian and international companies presented their equality, diversity and inclusion programmes at an online meeting organized by the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria (CWBB). The discussion took place in the framework of the European Diversity Month - the month of May - and was attended by the winners of last year's national awards of the CWBB.

Initiatives were presented to encourage the presence of women in managerial positions; to support young parents who combine work with child-rearing; to ensure diversity in work teams.

Tsvetelina Koycheva from Accenture Bulgaria pointed out that one of the company's goals is to have 50% of their global employees be women. Currently in Bulgaria 64% of their employees are women. Koycheva also noted the company's initiatives to include people with disabilities.

Diversity inclusion initiatives were also presented by the company VMware, which was awarded for the VMInclusion Bulgaria project. They told us that each of their employees has the opportunity to participate in volunteer initiatives, for which they "dedicate" 40 working hours per year. After accumulating these hours, the employee is given the opportunity by the company to donate a certain amount of money to a cause of their choice, which this year is a little more than USD 3,000.

Caring and sustainability for the family - in the work environment and on a personal level - are the goals of the parent support programme at UniCredit Bulbank, said Elena Zhelyazkova, senior manager for training and development at the bank. Among the initiatives in this regard are a digital brochure for expectant mothers and fathers, flexible working hours and teleworking, a lump sum payment for childbirth, additional parental leave for fathers, a corporate kindergarten, and seminars covering topics related to parenthood.

The second annual CWBB awards will be presented in early November, and a launch for company applications will be announced in September, it was also revealed at the online meeting.
