Romania has the second cheapest petrol and the third cheapest diesel in the EU, the Adeverul newspaper reports. The newspaper notes that fuel prices in the country have been decreasing recently, with petrol at the level of January and diesel reaching the level of the beginning of last year.

The media outlet quoted European Commission data from May 8, entered in the Weekly Oil Bulletin, according to which Romania has an average petrol price of RON 6.43 per liter (EUR 1.30) and an average diesel price of RON 6.46 per liter (EUR 1.31). Only Bulgaria has cheaper petrol, at EUR 1.29 per liter. In terms of diesel, Bulgaria (with a price of EUR 1.27) and Malta (EUR 1.21) have lower prices.

At the opposite pole, Finland has the most expensive petrol in the EU at EUR 1.94 per liter, while Sweden has the most expensive diesel at EUR 1.86 per liter. The average price of petrol in the 27 EU countries is EUR 1.70 per liter and diesel EUR 1.54 per liter.

Oil prices fell about 2% in volatile trading on Wednesday, ending gains of the past three days, as U.S. economic data suggested the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates further in attempts to fight inflation, Adeverall reported, citing Reuters.

Brent crude fell USD 1.48, or 1.9%, to USD 75.96 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell USD 1.63, or 2.2%, to USD 72.08 a barrel.
