A group of 24 cadets from the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, on the Black Sea, arrived in the Spanish city of Cartagena on Tuesday to conduct a two-week sailing practice aboard the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421). Accompanied by three naval officers and one civilian instructor, the future sailors will be on the ship during its trip from Spain back to Bulgaria.

The cadets were greeted by the crew led by Commander Nikolay Danailov, who briefed them on the ship's internal procedures.

The process of refuelling and restocking the ship in Cartagena finished. The Spanish port is an intermediate stop on the way of RSV 421, which is sailing back to Varna after its successful first participation in the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic expedition to Livingston Island. The ship will weigh anchor from Cartagena on Wednesday to proceed to Piraeus, Greece. A discussion of mutual cooperation between the Naval Academy in Varna and the Greek Naval Academy will take place there.

The ship is expected to complete its full voyage on May 2, when it will dock in Varna.

BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on board the ship to Livingston Island and back and covered the Bulgarian expedition on site throughout its stay in Antarctica.
