The mission of the Bulgarian Embassy in Kyiv and members of the Bulgarian community in Ukraine paid a floral tribute at a monument in the Zvirynetske Cemetery commemorating those who died in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the Embassy says on its website. The war brought about Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman Turkish rule and gave the country its National Day, March 3.
A holy liturgy was served in front of the monument. Teodor Savov, Charge d'Affaires at the Bulgarian Embassy, delivered a speech in which he stressed the significance of the sacrifice of the Russo-Turkish War heroes, some of whom were Ukrainians. He expressed empathy with the Ukrainian people over Russia's ongoing aggression. A minute of silence was observed for the fallen.
