Interior Minister: Generators Intended for Border Crossings with North Macedonia Will Be Sent to Turkiye

Three electric generators originally intended for the checkpoints on Bulgaria's border with the Republic of North Macedonia will be donated to Turkiye which needs them much more, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters in Blagoevgrad.

He said he expects the Republic of North Macedonia to find the resources to ensure a better functioning of border control, adding that consular consultations were forthcoming, in which he hopes to participate. "We will identify all the problems there and we will help them if we can. Now, however, Turkiye has a much more pressing need for the three generators as there are human lives that need saving there," he said.

On February 4, Demerdzhiev promised to deliver the generators to North Macedonia after hundreds of Bulgarians could not cross the border for a commemoration of revolutionary Gotse Delchev due to hours-long power cuts.
